About the Instructor

Dr. Berin Gilfillan

Dr. Berin Gilfillan is a South African-born American minister, businessman, and author, is widely recognized as the visionary behind Good Shepherd Ministries, International (GSMI) and the groundbreaking International School of Ministry (ISOM).

Born a U.S. citizen through his mother, Dr. Gilfillan’s upbringing unfolded in the vibrant landscape of South Africa. After completing his education at Hilton College in Kwazulu, Natal, in 1979, he embarked on a transformative journey to the United States. In 1983, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Michigan, and soon after, pursued a Master’s degree in Communication from Regent University in Virginia Beach.

The pivotal chapter in Dr. Gilfillan’s life unfolded when he and his wife, Lisa, relocated to Frankfurt, Germany, to collaborate with renowned evangelist Reinhard Bonnke. From 1986 to 1989, as the Television Producer at Christ for all Nations (CfaN), Dr. Gilfillan played a key role in producing documentaries and managing the technical aspects of major conferences across Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Following his impactful tenure with Reinhard Bonnke, Dr. Gilfillan returned to the U.S. to pursue theological studies at Fuller Theological Seminary from 1990 to 1991 under the mentorship of Dr. C. Peter Wagner. It was during this period that he founded Good Shepherd Ministries, International (GSMI), leading his family on a two-year missionary journey to Nigeria, where they established numerous video Bible schools and a lasting preschool.

From 1994 to 2000, GSMI produced the foundational ISOM Core material, featuring teachings from influential figures like Joyce Meyer, T.L. Osborn, and Reinhard Bonnke. Simultaneously, Dr. Gilfillan served as the Children’s Pastor at Cottonwood Church, overseeing spiritual development for over 1,200 children.

In 2005, Dr. Gilfillan co-created YouthBytes, a curriculum for teens, with Chad Daniel. Subsequently, he earned a Doctor of Ministry from Vision International University in 2006, focusing on multiplication growth in the Global Church, as outlined in his book Unlocking the Abraham Promise. His recent book Pursuing Maturity, he shares his experience with ISOM mentoring and discipleship in the journey towards maturity.

Currently splitting his time between Redlands, California and Kissimmee, Florida, Dr. Gilfillan spearheads GSMI with a dedicated team, producing diverse video training productions for pastors and churches globally. Notably, GSMI’s portfolio includes specialized curricula like WOW (Women’s curriculum), Marketplace Module (Business curriculum), and CDBoks (Community Development program).

As Dr. Gilfillan continues to lead missions trips and develop new content for the global Church, he remains deeply rooted in his commitment to education and ministry. Beyond his professional pursuits, he finds joy in spending time with his grandchildren Liliana, Ari, and Maya.
