Sessions

1. God’s Will and Healing

In the first session titled “God’s Will and Healing,” the focus is on understanding God’s will regarding healing. The primary obstacle to healing is people questioning God’s will, often misinterpreting passages like Matthew 26:39 and James 4:13-16. The lesson emphasizes the importance of praying with the confidence that aligns with God’s will. James 5:14-15 advocates a prayer of faith for the sick, emphasizing the need for unwavering belief in God’s willingness to heal. The teaching refers to Matthew 6:9-10, emphasizing that as there is no sickness in heaven, it is not God’s will for sickness on earth. The centurion’s faith exemplifies both God’s ability and willingness to heal, highlighting the importance of trusting in God’s readiness to provide healing.

2. Healing in the Atonement

In Session 2, “Healing in the Atonement,” the discussion explores the origins of sickness through Adam’s sin, emphasizing Jesus’ redemption as the remedy. The lesson delves into Old Testament examples like the Passover, serpent in the wilderness, and God’s redemptive names, all pointing to Jesus as our healer. Isaiah 53:3-5 is a key scripture indicating that Jesus bore our sicknesses and carried our sorrows at Calvary. This is affirmed in Jesus’ ministry, as seen in Matthew 8:16-17, where forgiveness and healing are provided for all, emphasizing the comprehensive redemption of body and spirit through Christ’s sacrifice.

3. Full Salvation

In Session 3, “Full Salvation,” the focus is on God’s comprehensive idea of salvation, extending beyond sin redemption. Exploring the Greek word sōzō, meaning saved, healed, and delivered, it encompasses more than forgiveness. Instances like the woman anointing Jesus’ feet and the woman with an issue of blood highlight salvation as healing. Jairus’ daughter, deliverance from evil spirits, and healing from leprosy demonstrate the body-spirit connection in salvation. Faith for healing is rooted in God’s Word, emphasizing preaching healing as part of salvation. Examples include Mark 6:54-56 and James 5:14-15. The Gospel, powerful for salvation and healing, reveals complete redemption, emphasizing that physical bodies belong to Christ (1 Corinthians 6:13-19).

4. Moses, the Serpent, and Healing

In Session 4, the focus is on the connection between salvation and healing, using the story of Moses lifting the serpent on a pole in Numbers 21:8. The word zōē signifies receiving God’s life through faith in Jesus, impacting both spirit and body. The serpent on the pole, a type of Christ crucified, represents looking to Jesus for healing. Emphasizing the need to focus on Jesus, the session explores the symbolism of the serpent and Christ’s atonement for sin, sickness, and oppression on the cross. By understanding and seeing this, believers can access the zōē of God for spiritual and physical restoration.

5. The Mercy of Healing

Session 5 of “Jesus Our Healer Today” focuses on the mercy of God in healing. The session explores God’s character, emphasizing His compassion and willingness to heal. Understanding God’s mercy inspires faith, demonstrated through Jesus’ compassion in various biblical accounts. Healing is portrayed as an expression of God’s mercy, requiring believers to receive it. The key to receiving God’s mercy is illustrated through the story of Blind Bartimaeus, emphasizing the role of faith. Believers are encouraged to have faith in God’s love, recognizing Jesus as the merciful high priest, and approaching the throne of grace boldly in faith, mirroring Bartimaeus’ persistence.
